The People

The practice comprises myself, with some administrative, secretarial and paralegal assistance.

The Location

My offices are on the Newby Road Industrial Estate at Hazel Grove, Stockport, round the corner from Stepping Hill Hospital. The industrial estate, and two other industrial estates in close proximity, provides an immediate, existing and potential client base.

The Scope of the Work

Most aspects of commercial and business law, including basic company and partnership advice, shareholder and partnership agreements, terms and conditions of sale, distribution agreements, sale and purchase of businesses and assets, commercial leases, commercial conveyancing (occasionally), licensing of copyright and other intellectual property, software contracts, employment law and a wide range of commercial litigation, including building and construction.

The Scale of the Work

Most but not all of the work is relatively low value by big firm standards and for small and medium size businesses. The work is however intellectually challenging and there is a substantial variety. Clients vary in size from individuals and family companies to UK subsidiaries of multinational companies.

Who am I looking for?

The candidate must have the intellectual ability to tackle a wide range of work, and the enthusiasm and initiative to develop (with help if needed) new areas of legal expertise. The candidate will almost certainly have had experience in the commercial department of a medium or large sized practice. I am looking for support primarily for the non-contentious side of the practice. A candidate wanting to work full time should have some following, and an enthusiasm and ability for marketing the practice.

I am willing to consider candidates who would like to work part time and for flexible hours, either because they wish to return gradually to practice after absence, or because they are bored with being an underemployed consultant.

The candidate must be qualified to supervise and run the practice in my absence (as at long last I wish to take a holiday).
